Monday Watercooler: Rourke wants to bring the Thomas story to the big screen Published on Monday, July 19, 2010 by James Withers > Send by to a friend via email > Retweet >
  • Sen. Vitter doesn’t think Maddow is a real woman. Going to give David Vitter points in the gall category. The senator from Louisiana, who got caught in some prostitute affair mess, has to fire  an aide charged with knifing a woman. Funny side note: the former aide was in charge of women’s issues. Vitter recently came out as a birther, then denied it, made some crass joke about Rachel Maddow not looking like a woman, and then had to apologize. Dude, learn to shut the mouth.

  • DADT article. The folk over at Servicemembers Legal Defense Network provide a link to an article worth reading. It’s written by Major Laura Kesler for the Spring 2010 issue of the Military Law Review. The esasy takes on some of the “theories” presented by those against DADT repeal. Worth reading and passing around.

  • 45 days for a “hate crime.”  Approximately a year ago, 29 year old Driton Nicaj was involved in three assaults, including one of a gay man. The crime against Joseph Holladay was originally listed as a hate crime. This past December  judge Ronald A. Zweibel  dismissed the hate crime charge because Nicaj’s use of the word faggot was “typical trash-talking.” Nicaj received 45 days in jail and three years of probation. In the deal worked out with the DA, the assailant pleaded guilty, started his time on May 29, and was released on June 9 for good behavior plus time served.

  • Manu is cool with gay marriage. If you are a basketball fan, you know Manu Ginobli. If you don’t, please cease talking about the sport. Anyway the San Antonio Spurs guard is from Argentina and is behind his country making gay marriage legal.

  • Gay porn performer arrested for murder. Jason Andrews, known as Addison in  his gay porn work, is charged with murder. The gay for pay thespian and his girlfriend, Amanda Logue, are accused of the stabbing death of Dennis “Scooter” Abrahamsen. Logue is also an adult performer, her stage name is Sunny Dae. The pair were originally arrested after the May 15 crime because they tried to use one of  the decedent’s credit cards (sort of stupid). The police didn’t have enough evidence on the couple at the time.

  • The Tea Party and the NAACP fight it out. Smarter people have dealt with the smack down between the Tea-Party and the NAACP (if you haven’t done so, book mark the Atlantic’s Ta-Nehisi Coates). I’ll only add that we are in deep trouble if  a “talking point” is the name of the country’s oldest civil rights organization.

  • Charges against Choi dropped. Lt. Dan Choi and Capt. James Pietrangelo had the charges against them dropped lat week. The two military men handcuffed themselves to the White House fence, twice, to protest DADT. Choi thinks the cases were dismissed because the White House doesn’t want any negative DADT press.

  • Gareth Thomas biopic? Thomas, the king of the rugby pitch, is talking to crazy man Mickey Rourke about a possible film on the athlete’s life. His story is certainly cinematic, but I’m worried about Hollywood getting its hands on it. Tinseltown doesn’t handle complexity well. The town gave Crash an Oscar. That piece of schlock makes She’s Out of  My League erudite.
